With historian friends Masha Kirasirova and Eileen Kane, I have co-edited a 34-chapter anthology of primary sources and specialist introductions covering many unexpected connections between Russian, Soviet, and Arabic-speaking societies. Please check out:
- Contents and reviews of Russian-Arab Worlds: A Documentary History (Oxford UP 2023).
- Companion website with primary sources in several languages.
- Discount flyer for 30% off the book.
Please join the fun. I’m excited to have helped build a small movement around this research topic. Our interlocutors are based in the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, Poland, Germany, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates. We have organized panels at MESA, ASEEES, ATSEEL, and other conferences, convened a three-day workshop on Arab-Russian and Arab-Soviet cultural ties at St. Petersburg State University in June 2013, and launched a Facebook discussion group to share our research with a wider circle of interested Arabists and Slavists. If the topic interests you, please consider joining the Facebook group or contacting me directly.
